Q & A

1. Which class should I take first?

We recommend starting with Search for Significance and then Boundaries, which are foundational classes for any of the other support groups. Exceptions to that would be if you are currently separating or divorcing then please attend DivorceCare; if you have had a recent significant loss, then please attend Grief Recovery.

2. How can I get a description of the classes?

A description of each of our classes is available on our website. A copy of the current classes is available under schedule. The schedule is updated each session.

3. Is there a cost for these classes?

As a ministry, we try to keep costs to a minimal. You will need to pay for materials which cost typically $8 - $20 per class. The exception is our Financial Peace University which is $95.

4. Where is the church located?

We are located at 3201 S. Elm Place in Broken Arrow near the corner of 101st and Elm. Click here to be directed to a map.

  •  From Hwy 169 go east on Hwy 51 (also known as the BA Expressway). Take 161st exit and go 3 miles south
  •  From Creek Turnpike, exit on 161st and go north 1.5 miles.

5. How do I enroll in a class or group?

You may enroll online, by phone, or e-mail. We now offer online payment option for your convenience. Pre-enrollment is recommended due to limited class sizes.

6. Why is the class closed?

We close enrollment for two reasons:

  • The class has reached the limit for that particular class or
  • The class may be too far into the study and you have missed foundational lessons upon which the remaining lessons are building.

7. Are any of these therapy groups or counseling groups?

These are Christ-centered support and discovery groups. These groups are facilitated by trained lay people therefore are not considered counseling groups. They are however, a great companion study for those who may be in therapy. Our groups provide a safe  environment in which people can learn to renew their mind. Learning, growing, and caring are all important parts of our groups. We are an excellant resource in the community and are recommended by many professional counselors.

8. Who leads the groups?

As mentioned above, all of our groups are led by trained lay people, who have undergone many hours of classroon study as well as an Internship in facilitating group discussions. Our groups nurture safe environment where people feel welcome to be open and honest about their challenges.

9. What if I have more questions, need more information or want to register?

Contact the Life Support office for information not found on our site. To register you may do so by clicking on the class you want to take; an enrollment form is on that page. Or you may go to Life Support Classes and enroll on the form there.

In the Beginning...

Mission Statement

We offer caring support groups (ongoing) and growth groups (short studies) that bring light, hope and balance into people's lives. These are Christ-centered, lay-led, effective groups striving to..."bring good news to the suffering and afflicted, comfort the broken-hearted, announce liberty to the captive and open the eyes of the blind." (quoted from Isaiah 61:1, Life Recovery Bible)

The Vision

Before Life Support Ministry had a name, God was already at work.  In 1988 God raised up a support group – a much needed group to help hurting people living through the crisis and trauma of divorce. Two years later the first discovery group was added: Search for Significance.  In 1994, God gave Bro. Bob the vision of a support group ministry for Arrow Heights.  He enlisted the help of Gaye Call and sent her to a church in North Carolina to see what God was doing in people’s lives there – it was amazing and inspiring.
In 1995 the church voted to add a Life Support Ministry Coordinator to their staff.  The first Making Peace with Your Past discovery group was offered and a handful of brave people participated.   As God began to work in these people’s lives, healing hurts and restoring hope, they in turn, began to share with family and friends their new discoveries and changes.  More and more people began coming to these classes & groups, their lives were being dramatically changed and word began to spread about God’s miraculous work at AHBC.  As word spread, Life Support grew.
It became evident that Life Support was a seed planted at Arrow Heights and that God had a bigger plan and purpose.  Other churches began to hear about what God was doing so powerfully at AHBC - the calls and visits from other pastors and church leaders were overwhelming.   Again God spoke to Bro. Bob and told him to have a conference for other churches interested in beginning a similar ministry.  God guided the naming of this conference to be “Romans 12:2” which says,  “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the excellent, perfect will of God.” This verse beautifully portrays the sanctifying process God was using to transform people’s lives through Life Support Ministry.  God renews (or changes) our mind (that is, our thinking, our under-standing, and our perceptions) resulting in a transformed life.
The first Rom 12:2 Conference was held in March of 2003 at Arrow Heights followed by a second one April, 2005 at the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma.  It became clear that God purposed the church to be a place for people to find safety and healing - a place to bring their hurts out into the open, into the light so Jesus can heal them.  Many churches throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Illinois have caught the vision of a Life Support–type ministry in their own communities.
God doesn’t just add – He also multiplies!  And He promises to complete that which He has begun.   People’s lives continue to be transformed, minds renewed, and hope restored through the Life Support Ministry.  God is the author and creator of LSM and He is still at work through Arrow Heights.  Where God guides LSM to go in the future only He (God) knows but we can know one thing…Jesus did come to give us life and give it more abundantly.  Learning to live the victorious, abundant life is what Life Support Ministry is all about. God is truly an awesome God!!!

How Did Life Support Start?

Pastor Robert H. (Bob) Green has over 35 years experience as a pastor, 33 of which have been at Arrow Heights. He has served on many committees and boards over the years and as President to the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma most recently. God gave him a vision for this type of ministry and he prayed for God to raise up leadership for Life Support. His passion is to minister to people, giving them tools that bring about life-changing transformation. He delights in watching God work through spiritually gifted people as they serve in this ministry. He has a genuine heart and love for people and is committed to helping them become all God designed them to be.

Life Support Minister Gaye Call has been on staff at Arrow Heights Baptist Church for over 25 years. As Assistant to Pastor for over 20 years, she began Life Support as a part-time ministry. As LSM quickly grew, it became apparent that God wanted it to be a full-time ministry – with a dozen groups offered each semester and over 30 trained facilitators. She has also taught numerous churches across the nation how to begin similar ministries. Gaye has served on various task forces at the Baptist General Convention of OK (BGCO), is a member of American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) and where she received a certification for counseling, and serves on the Executive Board of the Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS). Her heart’s desire is to see people experience God’s grace in a way that renews their mind and transforms their life.
