What is Funday School?

Our Sunday school classes rotate through six classes. They are Missions, Games, Bible Bazaar/art, Bible Story, Drama and Video. We study the same Bible story and character trait for six weeks. Each week the classes move to a different class. The children really know the Bible Story after six weeks.

The Game Room is a spin off of Nickelodeon. There is a wall of Surprise and Podiums with buzzers for the kids to answer questions for their team. The teachers tell the Bible story and then create questions and answers from the story to develop a game.

The Video Room has a popcorn machine and is designed with curtains along the walls for decoration and to muffle sound. A big screen T.V. is hooked up to surround sound with a VCR and DVD player. The teacher tells the Bible story and they watch a movie related to their story or character trait and discuss it afterwords.

The Bible Story Room has two design sets in it. One is present day and one is Biblical. The story is taught so the children see how it may affect their lives. The room has a living room/dining room on one side and an adobe house on the other side. A large cross also stands in the room, which is usually used at Easter. The teachers tell the Bible story and then get the kids involved. During two lessons they have had a court proceeding, complete with Judge, Jury, and Lawyers. They debated Evolution in one lesson. The other was the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant in Matthew 18: 23-45. Our character trait was forgiveness and the unforgiving servant was put on trial. When we taught Noah and the Ark the kids carried signs and heckled old Noah. We talked about how foolish he must have felt, but still chose to obey God.

The Mission Room looks like the inside of a submarine. The Bible story is taught and the Go Anywhere Vehicle (GAV) cruises around from country to country studying the way people live, what they eat, games they play, etc. They also have a computer to e-mail missionary children.

The Bible Bazaar/Art-Project is created around the Bible story. The teachers tell the Bible story and they work on a project. They use modeling clay or play dough to make a vessel as they study about God molding each of us for His use. This room is created to look like a market place during Bible times.

The Drama Room is designed to look like a theater. The kids sit on carpeted risers. They hear the Bible story and then act it out.

Each room is designed to draw the kid’s interest. If we can get them here, they will hear the Bible taught. Each child hears the Bible story 6 times. Repetition is how we learn and we believe the children will find, in one of these rooms, something that appeals to their learning style.

Funday School meets on Sunday mornings at 10:45 am.
